The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has criticized Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for his remarks on sensitive international matters amid the Israel-US and Iran conflict. The Leader of Opposition, R. Ashoka, emphasized the need for maturity from the Chief Minister, stating that India’s foreign policy is shaped in New Delhi based on strategic depth and national interest, not influenced by local politics. Ashoka highlighted the importance of responsible leadership during global tensions, urging Siddaramaiah to exercise restraint.
Referring to Operation Sindoor, Ashoka accused the Chief Minister of creating unnecessary controversy and embarrassment for the state with his previous comments, which were reportedly magnified by foreign media. He criticized Siddaramaiah for what he termed as knee-jerk reactions and appeasement politics, emphasizing that foreign policy should prioritize India’s sovereignty, strategic balance, and global reputation. Ashoka called for the Chief Minister to rise above partisan interests and uphold the dignity of his position.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had earlier condemned the US attack on Iran, expressing concern for Kannadigas stranded in Arab nations. He denounced the US actions as unwarranted, highlighting the contradictory nature of engaging in war while advocating for peace. Siddaramaiah also extended condolences and prayers for the late Iranian President Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Amid escalating tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar criticized the attack on a school resulting in the deaths of several children. Shivakumar denounced the ongoing conflict, particularly the loss of innocent lives, stressing the need to protect Indian citizens stranded in Gulf countries. He called for the safeguarding of children and peaceful resolution of conflicts.
