A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation, led by Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, submitted a memorandum to Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot. The delegation requested the Governor to intervene and instruct the state government to reverse its decision to withdraw criminal cases linked to the Aland riot incident. Narayanaswamy criticized the move, alleging it was done to please minorities and for political gain.
Several BJP leaders, including Legislative Council Deputy Leader of Opposition Sunil Valyapure, accompanied Narayanaswamy during the submission. Addressing reporters after the meeting, Narayanaswamy expressed shock and condemnation over the government’s choice to drop cases against those involved in the attack on the Sri Raghava Chaitanya Temple in Kalaburagi district. He highlighted the seriousness of the allegations, which included communal violence and damage to public property.
Narayanaswamy emphasized the historical significance of the Sri Raghava Chaitanya Temple and its Shivalinga, with a legacy spanning over 600 years. He criticized the government for withdrawing cases despite the region’s past communal tensions and loss of lives. The BJP leader accused the government of encouraging lawlessness by not holding the accused accountable and urged the Governor to reconsider the cabinet’s decision.
