In a significant development regarding Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its stance, urging for an impartial forensic investigation into a controversial video clip that has sparked heated discussions in the state. BJP National Spokesperson R.P. Singh has challenged Chief Minister Mann to go beyond private reports and present the disputed footage to a credible government lab for definitive verification. Singh emphasized the importance of relying on scientific analysis rather than hastiness to uncover the truth for the people of Punjab and the Sikh Panth.
The video controversy revolves around an alleged “objectionable” video involving Mann, which the Chief Minister has vehemently denied as fake, attributing it to an impersonator. Chief Minister Mann has conveyed his stance to the Akal Takht, asserting that the video is part of a malicious effort to damage his reputation. The situation took a dramatic turn with the arrest of two individuals, Ankit from Delhi and Arun from Panchkula, by Haryana’s Gurugram Police following a complaint by forensic expert Jaspreet Singh.
Allegations surfaced that senior Punjab Police officials, including a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and a Superintendent of Police (SP), offered Rs 10 lakh to Jaspreet Singh to manipulate a favorable forensic report on the video. The Gurugram Police have lodged an FIR invoking stringent legal sections related to organized crime, cheating, and forgery of electronic records, along with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act. The arrested individuals are set to appear in court as the BJP leader R.P. Singh termed the incident a “state-sponsored conspiracy” to shield the Chief Minister from political and religious repercussions.
