A rift between Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot, top Congress leaders in Rajasthan, has reignited due to long-standing political rivalry. BJP’s state president, Madan Rathore, emphasized that the BJP plays no part in Congress’ internal politics. Rathore urged Gehlot and Pilot to resolve their differences through dialogue rather than involving political opponents.
Gehlot criticized Pilot over past leadership conflicts, prompting BJP’s Rathore to accuse Gehlot of stirring old controversies for political relevance. Rathore suggested that Gehlot, as a three-term Chief Minister, should exhibit more restraint in public discourse. He noted that internal factionalism within Congress is escalating, leading senior leaders to make provocative statements to gain attention.
Rathore criticized Gehlot for resorting to public accusations to dominate political discourse. Gehlot, in response, revisited the events of a political crisis in 2022, asserting that the rebellion aimed to prevent Pilot from becoming Chief Minister. He highlighted the need for acknowledging mistakes made during the crisis and emphasized the importance of reconciliation efforts.
Gehlot mentioned the Manesar episode and the lack of acknowledgment for helping Pilot’s political rise. Despite attempts at reconciliation, misunderstandings persist, indicating unresolved political wounds. The ongoing rivalry between Gehlot and Pilot continues to impact Congress in Rajasthan, hindering the party’s efforts to regain political strength after losing power to the BJP.
