Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) IT Cell Chief and the party’s national observer for West Bengal, Amit Malviya, raised concerns about a West Bengal government official allegedly breaching Election Commission guidelines. Malviya highlighted the official’s actions in a WhatsApp group chat, suggesting manipulation of the electoral process. He criticized the official for promoting Form 6 over the appeal process, which he deemed as an attempt to sidestep proper procedures and hide crucial information.
Malviya emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of voter rolls and urged the Election Commission to address the issue promptly. He expressed worries about the official’s conduct, stating that it resembled political activism rather than neutral administration. Additionally, he pointed out the significance of stringent electoral verification processes in areas like Bidhannagar, known for a notable presence of illegal infiltrators.
Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, also criticized the Mamata Banerjee government for allegedly violating norms by involving the West Bengal Police Welfare Organisation in handling postal ballots. Adhikari condemned this move, claiming it undermines democratic principles, and called on the Election Commission to investigate the matter.
