Marking National Voters’ Day 2026, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) initiated a campaign in Tamil Nadu to encourage responsible voting and strive for 100% voter turnout in the upcoming Assembly elections. The party emphasized the importance of voter education and electoral reforms in promoting democracy and citizen-centric governance. National Voters’ Day, observed since 2011, has been instrumental in enhancing awareness about voting rights and informed decision-making.
The BJP spokesperson in Tamil Nadu, A.N.S. Prasad, highlighted the transformative impact of voter education, citing the significant shift in national politics following focused awareness efforts. He underscored the relevance of the 2026 National Voters’ Day in light of the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, aimed at ensuring the integrity of the electoral process. The SIR process has been crucial in eliminating fraudulent entries and empowering legitimate voters.
Prasad defended the Election Commission, the Prime Minister, and the BJP against politically motivated criticism regarding voter-roll reforms, noting the public’s endorsement of fair elections. He advocated for similar awareness campaigns in Tamil Nadu to combat corruption, dynastic politics, and unfavorable alliances in the upcoming polls. The theme for National Voters’ Day 2026, “My India, My Vote,” underscores the citizen’s central role in Indian democracy.
Emphasizing the importance of ethical voting, BJP workers in Tamil Nadu are engaging in outreach activities targeting first-time voters and youth. These efforts include awareness sessions, voter registration drives, and discussions on the impact of ethical voting on societal progress. Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings on the occasion, urging citizens to fulfill their democratic responsibility by participating in the electoral process. The BJP aims for sustained public involvement, transparent elections, and informed voter engagement to establish a development-focused administration in Tamil Nadu.
National Voters’ Day, commemorated annually on January 25, celebrates the establishment of the Election Commission of India and promotes inclusive participation, electoral integrity, and citizen-centric democracy.
