Senior BJP leader R. Ashoka criticized the Congress government for postponing the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) elections, alleging a fear of defeat. Ashoka claimed that the decision to split Bengaluru into five zones was due to Congress surveys predicting losses in all regions, leading to intentional delays in the elections. He also accused Bengaluru’s Minister D.K. Shivakumar of hindering the polls until the completion of the Congress leadership transition.
Stressing the government’s responsibility for city issues, Ashoka highlighted how internal conflicts within the Congress had caused problems like garbage accumulation and halted development in Bengaluru. He urged the government to promptly announce the elections following a court’s final deadline, emphasizing the BJP’s readiness for the polls.
Ashoka further criticized the Congress for blaming opposition parties for the election delay after internal surveys hinted at defeat. He questioned the Congress’s avoidance of elections despite claiming confidence in winning, attributing the delays to the ruling party’s habit of shifting blame.
Accusing the government of burdening citizens with price hikes and new taxes, Ashoka pointed out growing public discontent towards the Congress in Bengaluru as a key reason for the election postponement. He also condemned the government’s alleged attempt to acquire fertile agricultural land in Bidadi, betraying local farmers for development projects.
