BJP state president and MLA Rajeev Chandrasekhar criticized the LDF and UDF governments in Kerala for neglecting the issue of human-wildlife conflict. Chandrasekhar highlighted instances of people in hilly regions facing wildlife attacks without sufficient protection, leading to fatalities. He specifically mentioned the recent death of Mariyammal in a wild elephant attack in Idukki, emphasizing the lack of security for those living near forest fringes.
Chandrasekhar pointed out the government’s alleged negligence in addressing the escalating threat to human life due to wildlife encounters. He cited government data showing a significant number of deaths and injuries resulting from wildlife attacks in Kerala between 2016 and 2025, particularly from elephants, tigers, and wild boars. Despite available funds and measures provided by the Centre to manage human-animal conflict, Chandrasekhar accused Kerala of failing to effectively utilize these resources for safeguarding its citizens.
The BJP leader criticized the delays in compensating victims and their families, calling for the immediate implementation of modern technologies like drones and AI-based surveillance to prevent wildlife intrusion into human habitats. Chandrasekhar urged the government to prioritize citizen safety and take proactive steps to mitigate the risks posed by human-wildlife conflict.
