West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s concerns regarding security breaches at the EVM strongrooms are dismissed by BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari as a sign of her fear of losing the elections. Adhikari stated that Banerjee has a history of raising doubts about EVMs whenever she anticipates electoral setbacks, dating back to her tenure since 2011.
Adhikari emphasized that Banerjee’s recent actions, including visiting an EVM strongroom and alleging tampering, are driven by her apprehension of an impending defeat in the elections. The high-stakes Bhabanipur Assembly constituency, where Banerjee and Adhikari are rivals, has become a focal point of this issue.
In response to Banerjee’s claims, Adhikari assured voters, especially in Bhabanipur, that the Election Commission of India has instructed the Chief Minister to adhere strictly to electoral rules. Adhikari’s election agent personally monitored Banerjee to prevent any potential misconduct during her presence at the strong-room premises.
The Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal also refuted allegations of EVM and postal ballot tampering in a press conference, further addressing the controversy surrounding the security of the electoral process.
