BJP Rajya Sabha member Samik Bhattacharya criticized the West Bengal government, alleging a significant exodus of capital, investment, and opportunities from the state. He claimed that West Bengal is no longer seen as an investment-friendly destination and accused the ruling All India Trinamool Congress government of a complete absence of law and order. Bhattacharya highlighted the closure of 79,000 companies in the last 15 years, with over 6,300 companies relocating their head offices from Kolkata to other places.
The BJP leader pointed out various forms of exodus occurring in the state, including the outflow of money, capital investment, students, and migrant laborers. He attributed this situation to the compromised judiciary in Bengal, leading to a lack of law and order and an overall sense of anarchy. Bhattacharya emphasized the challenges faced by investors in West Bengal, contrasting the low FDI percentage in the state with that of Maharashtra.
Comparing the investment scenario in West Bengal to Maharashtra, Bhattacharya highlighted the stark difference in FDI percentages, with Bengal lagging significantly behind. Despite possessing resources like rivers, ports, and a conducive topographical environment, he lamented the lack of investment and startup opportunities in the state. Additionally, Bhattacharya criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her accusations against central agencies, asserting that the Trinamool Congress is associated with corruption and state-controlled atrocities.
