After being officially announced as the next Chief Minister of West Bengal by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Nitin Nabin, and Home Minister Shah for the opportunity. Adhikari highlighted the democratic process within the BJP where elected representatives have selected him as the leader, emphasizing his commitment to fulfilling election promises while uniting the party and the people.
Adhikari, who defeated former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency and also won in Nandigram, led the BJP to victory with 208 seats in the state Assembly polls. The appointment of Adhikari as the new Chief Minister was met with joy by BJP leaders, with Locket Chatterjee stating that the dream of bringing change to Bengal has been realized.
Locket Chatterjee praised the efforts of Suvendu Adhikari and BJP workers, acknowledging the sacrifices made during the struggle for victory. She emphasized the historic moment of a BJP government coming into power in West Bengal and pledged to work alongside the people to build a prosperous “Sonar Bangla” while ensuring women’s security through a collaborative effort.
BJP MLA-elect Bankim Chandra Ghosh expressed happiness and unity among the MLAs in supporting Suvendu Adhikari’s leadership. He noted the widespread joy among the people of Bengal following the decision. Sekhar Ranjan Debnath, husband of BJP MLA-elect Ratna Debnath, echoed support for the party’s choice, emphasizing the selection of the most suitable candidate for the role.
Chandra Sekhar Banerjee, another BJP MLA-elect, attributed Suvendu Adhikari’s appointment as Chief Minister to his years of hard work, stating that it signifies the end of Mamata Banerjee’s governance. The collective sentiment among party members and supporters is one of optimism and celebration for the new leadership in West Bengal.
