Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravinder Singh Negi sprinkled holy Ganga water at Rajghat to cleanse the site following a visit by AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia. Negi expressed concern that the AAP leaders had tainted the Mahatma Gandhi memorial by their presence and talk of following Gandhi’s principles.
Negi criticized Kejriwal and Sisodia, accusing them of benefiting from corruption and a liquor policy scandal in Delhi. He highlighted that despite facing legal issues related to the Excise Policy case, the AAP leaders visited the memorial and spoke of Satyagraha, Gandhi’s principle of nonviolent resistance.
Negi emphasized the importance of maintaining the sanctity of the memorial dedicated to the leader of India’s independence movement. He asserted that the people of Delhi rejected those involved in the liquor policy scandal, leading to their removal from power.
The controversy arose after Kejriwal and Sisodia’s visit to Rajghat, prompting Negi’s symbolic act of using Ganga water to purify the site. The AAP leaders had faced legal challenges related to the Excise Policy case, leading to tensions with the judiciary.
