The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders have expressed support for Sharmistha Mukherjee, daughter of late President Pranab Mukherjee, after she mentioned her father calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi India’s first directly elected PM. BJP’s Rohan Gupta highlighted Pranab Mukherjee’s straightforward nature, labeling the statement as a critique of dynasty politics within the Congress party. He emphasized the need for the Congress to acknowledge this perspective.
BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh echoed similar sentiments, criticizing the Congress for promoting dynastic figures over experienced leaders. Chugh referenced Pranab Mukherjee’s public endorsement of PM Modi’s leadership, emphasizing the progress envisioned under his governance. He noted the alignment between Pranab Mukherjee’s vision for India and the current reality under PM Modi.
In agreement, BJP MP Rahul Sinha emphasized the uniqueness of PM Modi’s election, contrasting it with past appointments based on quotas. Sinha highlighted PM Modi as the first directly elected Prime Minister of India, chosen by both the party and the electorate. Meanwhile, Congress Spokesperson Surendra Rajput accused Sharmistha Mukherjee of distorting her father’s words to curry favor with the BJP, urging for clarity on Pranab Mukherjee’s actual statements.
Congress MP Manoj Kumar took a dig at the BJP, pointing out issues like alleged electoral malpractice and economic challenges. He called for a broader discussion on critical national concerns, suggesting that Sharmistha Mukherjee, given her lineage, should address issues such as inflation and unemployment in addition to political dynamics.
