BJP leaders expressed strong condemnation for the stone-pelting incident near a mosque in Old Delhi during a demolition drive, emphasizing that the action was in line with a High Court order against encroachments. The incident occurred close to the Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque in the Turkman Gate area, where the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was removing unauthorized structures as directed by the Delhi High Court. As the demolition began, local residents gathered, leading to chaos when some individuals started pelting stones at security personnel.
Reacting to the situation, BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal clarified that the removal of encroachments was carried out lawfully under the High Court order. He mentioned that the police are investigating the matter with CCTV footage for necessary actions. Minister Ashish Sood termed the incident unfortunate and stressed that the demolition was strictly executed as per court directives, emphasizing that violence is unacceptable.
Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa emphasized that the action was based on judicial orders and urged the police to take action against wrongdoers. Delhi Assembly Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht supported the removal of unauthorized encroachments, irrespective of their nature, emphasizing the importance of respecting the location’s significance. Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh highlighted the need to address any encroachment causing inconvenience without considering caste, community, or religious sentiments.
Police have registered an FIR related to rioting and assault on government servants in the incident, detaining 10 individuals and continuing searches for others involved. Further updates on the case are awaited.
