A day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured that those leaving voluntarily would not face legal action from the West Bengal government, BJP leaders praised his statement and pointed out the adverse effects of illegal infiltration on India’s economy. Shah, speaking in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district, highlighted the BJP government’s actions on border-related issues, such as setting up detention centers and facilitating land transfers for border fencing. BJP MP Radhamohan Singh emphasized the economic repercussions of illegal infiltration, urging such individuals to exit the country.
Bihar Minister Ram Kripal Yadav commended the BJP government’s serious approach under Amit Shah’s leadership towards tackling illegal infiltration from the Bangladesh border. He criticized the previous Trinamool Congress government for providing a safe haven to infiltrators who exploited resources meant for Indian citizens. BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo highlighted the party’s commitment to its promises, citing the prompt transfer of land to the BSF for border fencing in West Bengal. He echoed Shah’s call for illegal infiltrators to leave voluntarily to avoid penalties or imprisonment.
BJP MP Lahar Singh Siroya welcomed the focus on illegal infiltration, noting its prevalence in Karnataka as well. He alleged that many infiltrators were facilitated during the Congress regime, with Aadhar cards and voter list entries. Home Minister Shah, in his address, underscored the BJP’s significant presence across 80% of India’s geographical area and hailed the party’s recent success in West Bengal as a major achievement.
