BJP leaders in West Bengal expressed approval of the Supreme Court’s decision not to intervene in the Election Commission of India’s choice of Central government and PSU employees as counting supervisors. The court emphasized adherence to the poll panel’s circular for state government nominees. Bengal BJP President, Samik Bhattacharya criticized the Trinamool Congress for spending taxpayers’ money on legal fees.
Reacting to the order, Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar accused the Trinamool Congress of seeking state government employees for the counting process to favor their party. BJP candidate Dilip Ghosh remarked that those rejected by the public cannot succeed elsewhere. Trinamool MP Saugata Roy downplayed the court’s ruling as not a significant setback.
State Minister and Trinamool candidate Shashi Panja noted differences in the election procedures in West Bengal compared to other states. The Supreme Court’s decision was accepted by the party, emphasizing the need to respect the judgment. The apex court disposed of the case without further directives, ensuring the presence of the state government nominee during vote counting.
