Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Legislative Assembly Preetam Singh Lodhi issued a public apology for using derogatory language against a senior police officer in Madhya Pradesh. Lodhi expressed deep hurt over his son being paraded in public, leading to his emotional outburst against the police officials. Following a meeting with the Chief Minister and party officials, Lodhi pledged to be more cautious with his words and comply with party guidelines.
Lodhi submitted a formal apology and requested an inquiry into the incident to the Chief Minister and the state BJP chief. Earlier, he received a show-cause notice from the party for his “highly objectionable” behavior, demanding a response within three days. The controversy arose from a viral video showing Lodhi confronting a police officer and making contentious remarks about his son’s political aspirations.
The incident stemmed from an April 16 road accident involving Lodhi’s son, leading to a clash between the MLA and the police. The Indian Police Service Association condemned Lodhi’s actions, labeling them as an affront to the administrative system. Opposition leaders criticized the BJP for defending such behavior, while protests erupted in Shivpuri over the issue. Despite claiming misrepresentation of his statements, Lodhi’s apology is seen as an attempt to defuse tensions.
