A BJP MLA in Muzaffarpur, Ranjan Kumar, reported receiving death threats and filed a complaint with the Mithanpura Police Station. He claimed that defamatory posts on social media were aimed at tarnishing his image. Kumar alleged that he was threatened with an AK-47 rifle after objecting to the misleading posts.
The legislator accused Mukund Kumar and another individual from the Patahi area of being behind the threatening posts. Ranjan Kumar mentioned that Mukund Kumar had been sharing objectionable content related to the Muzaffarpur Assembly constituency, using his photos to damage his reputation. The situation escalated when the MLA and his supporters visited the accused’s residence to address the issue.
During the confrontation, Mukund Kumar reportedly turned aggressive, using abusive language and physically assaulting them. Ranjan Kumar also claimed that the accused disclosed a criminal background, including past imprisonment for illegal possession of an AK-47, and threatened violence. The MLA has urged authorities to investigate the social media accounts involved and take action under the Information Technology (IT) Act.
The case took a new turn with Mukund Kumar filing a counter-complaint, alleging that the MLA and his supporters forcibly entered his home and assaulted him. The Mithanpura Police Station SHO, Ajay Kumar, confirmed the registration of two FIRs based on the complaints from both parties. The investigation will focus on digital evidence and eyewitness statements, with police assuring impartial examination of the allegations before deciding on further actions.
