BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal demanded an apology from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) following the conviction of former AAP Councillor Tahir Hussain in the 2020 Delhi riots case. Khandelwal accused the AAP of supporting the pre-planned violence, emphasizing the need for accountability.
Khandelwal stated that the recent court verdict exposed the premeditated nature of the riots and alleged AAP’s involvement. He urged the party to take responsibility and apologize to the people of Delhi for their role in the disturbing events.
Additionally, BJP National Spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia criticized the responses of Congress and AAP leaders to the case. Bhatia questioned the motives behind certain statements made by Congress leader Imran Masood and called out Sonia Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal for what he described as engaging in opportunistic politics.
Samajwadi Party spokesperson Ashutosh Verma emphasized the importance of respecting the court’s decision while highlighting that legal avenues are still available for the convicted individuals. Verma stressed the need to allow the judicial process to run its course before drawing further conclusions.
The Delhi court’s ruling found Tahir Hussain and four others guilty of the murder of Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma during the 2020 northeast Delhi riots. Apart from Hussain, the court convicted Javed, Anas, Nazim, and Kasim, while acquitting six other accused due to lack of conclusive evidence.
