BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal praised C. Joseph Vijay for becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, expressing optimism about the new government’s ability to enhance governance in the state. Khandelwal highlighted the need for improved administration following what he described as years of public discontent under the previous leadership.
C. Joseph Vijay, the head of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, was sworn in as the Chief Minister, marking a significant political shift in Tamil Nadu and concluding a long era of alternating rule between the DMK and AIADMK. The oath-taking ceremony, held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai, was overseen by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar.
Accompanying Vijay, nine ministers also took their oaths, forming the new council of ministers. The event attracted a large audience, including notable national and regional political figures, celebrities from the film industry, and numerous party supporters. Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, was among the attendees.
Strict security measures were enforced in and around the venue to manage the sizable crowd, with Chennai city police implementing thorough security protocols, heightened vehicle inspections, and stringent access controls. The arrangements aimed to ensure the smooth execution of the ceremony.
In a separate context, Khandelwal criticized the Congress party for the delay in appointing a Chief Minister in Kerala despite securing a clear majority in the Assembly elections. He pointed out the party’s indecision even after a week had passed since the election results were announced.
