Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Harsh Vardhan Shringla expressed optimism that if the party secures power in West Bengal post the upcoming Assembly elections on April 23 and 29, illegal infiltration will cease entirely. This assurance follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pledge during a campaign rally in Siliguri to eradicate illegal infiltration in the state.
Shringla, speaking at the rally in Siliguri, highlighted the geographical proximity of the constituency to Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh, emphasizing the issue of illegal infiltration from Bangladesh. He criticized the Trinamool Congress government for failing to address this issue effectively, contrasting it with the BJP’s efforts in Assam.
Pointing out deficiencies in border fencing with Bangladesh, Shringla blamed the Trinamool government for not providing necessary land for fencing, thereby allowing infiltrators to enter unchecked. He accused the ruling party of neglecting the problem due to political interests, asserting that a BJP government in West Bengal would decisively tackle illegal infiltration.
During the rally, attendees expressed support for PM Modi, with an artist recalling studying in a school under him and a student preparing to gift a sketch to the Prime Minister. Meanwhile, PM Modi criticized the Trinamool Congress for its alleged focus on appeasement politics and obstructing Central welfare projects in West Bengal.
