BJP MP Nishikant Dubey expressed his backing for the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ and criticized Rahul Gandhi for opposing the delimitation linked to the women’s reservation bill. Dubey likened Gandhi’s speech during the Lok Sabha discussion to a P.C. Sorcar magic show.
During the debate, Dubey urged the Opposition to support the 33% reservation for women proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He warned that opposition to delimitation could lead to unfairness for southern states, whose Lok Sabha seats might decrease if the quota is based on the 2011 Census.
Dubey also highlighted historical events on April 17, noting Rajiv Gandhi’s alleged involvement in the Bofors gun deal in 1987 and Sonia Gandhi becoming Congress president in 1998. He criticized the Congress for its stance on OBC welfare and accused Sonia Gandhi and P. Chidambaram of opposing a caste census.
The MP countered Rahul Gandhi’s claim about OBC representation in the corporate sector by citing examples of OBC leaders heading major companies. He emphasized the potential impact of implementing the women’s reservation bill based on the Census 2011 population on Lok Sabha seats in different states.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a last-minute appeal to opposition parties to support the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ during the ongoing parliamentary debate. The Lok Sabha approved the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026, aimed at enabling women’s reservation and facilitating delimitation.
