Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs noted that the recent significant voter turnout in West Bengal’s two-phased Assembly polls reflects public “anger and frustration” towards Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The polling percentage in the second phase reached 92.47%, culminating in a record overall average of 92.85% across both phases. BJP MP Ram Kripal Yadav emphasized that the electorate’s sentiments will become clearer post the May 4 results, stating that Mamata Banerjee’s tenure is coming to an end.
Yadav criticized Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of exploiting Bengal for 15 years, fostering misgovernance, and perpetrating violence against BJP members. He attributed the high voter turnout to public discontent with Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress, expressing confidence in a change on May 4. Despite exit polls favoring the BJP, Yadav remained cautious about their accuracy, predicting a BJP government in Assam and a shift in West Bengal.
Echoing similar sentiments, BJP MP Jagdambika Pal highlighted corruption, nepotism, and law and order issues under the Trinamool Congress’s rule in West Bengal. Pal also mentioned concerns over women’s safety and dissatisfaction with the Women’s Reservation Bill. He pointed out the growing desire for change in the state and predicted a BJP victory, asserting that Mamata Banerjee will be defeated.
