BJP National President Nitin Nabin has approved the resignation of former Tamil Nadu BJP state president K. Annamalai from the party’s primary membership. The acceptance of the resignation was confirmed by Arun Singh, National General Secretary and Headquarters In-charge of the party in a press release. Amid speculation about his future, Annamalai is set to address his supporters through social media to discuss his plans.
Annamalai, a former IPS officer who joined BJP in 2020, rose swiftly through the party ranks to become the Tamil Nadu BJP president. Reports suggest that he might launch a people’s movement that could potentially lead to the formation of a new political party. He is expected to make significant announcements during his social media interaction with supporters.
Sources close to Annamalai have revealed that he is working on establishing a people’s movement in Tamil Nadu to nurture young leaders. This initiative, which may eventually transition into a political party, is likely to be built upon his existing non-profit organization, “We the Leaders.” The move comes amidst reported disagreements over the BJP’s political approach in Tamil Nadu and Annamalai’s removal as state president.
Allegedly feeling marginalized within the party and dissatisfied with the BJP’s alliance decisions in Tamil Nadu, Annamalai has been contemplating his next steps. He reportedly turned down a Rajya Sabha seat offer and expressed disappointment at not being given a national role despite expectations of advancement within the party. The situation hints at underlying tensions within the BJP’s political strategy in the state.
