BJP President Commemorates Emergency Era as ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’

BJP National President Nitin Nabin highlighted the historical significance of June 25 by observing it as ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’. He emphasized that this day serves as a reminder of the Emergency period and the importance of upholding democratic values.

Nabin recalled the events leading to the Emergency, mentioning the nullification of then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s election by the Allahabad High Court. He criticized the prioritization of power over national interest during that time, which led to a suppression of democratic principles.

During the Emergency, Nabin noted the arrests of numerous leaders and activists who stood up for democracy. He pointed out the severe restrictions imposed on press freedom, civil liberties, and fundamental rights, describing it as a direct attack on democracy.

The BJP leader also discussed the constitutional changes made to consolidate power during the Emergency. Despite attempts to curtail judicial powers, he highlighted the resilience of India’s democratic spirit that ultimately led to the restoration of democracy across the nation.
