A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) march to the KPCC headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram became tense when police deployed water cannons to disperse the protesters. Led by BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the march was a response to a Congress demonstration outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in New Delhi.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar, along with other senior BJP leaders, was hit by the water cannon during the protest. The BJP alleged that a female party worker was slapped by a police officer amid the agitation. Chandrasekhar addressed the protesters, emphasizing that the BJP would not tolerate any undermining of democracy.
KPCC president Sunny Joseph accused the BJP of deliberately provoking a confrontation by marching to the Congress headquarters. He criticized the BJP’s protest as an attempt to divert attention from public outrage over alleged police excesses in Delhi. Joseph stressed the importance of peaceful protests without inciting violence.
