Bharatiya Janata Party’s Punjab President, Sunil Jakhar, has urged Punjab’s Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, to conduct a forensic investigation by a reputable lab on a video circulating on social media allegedly featuring someone resembling Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Jakhar emphasized the need for a swift examination, citing the potential for unrest in the sensitive state of Punjab due to the video’s content. He stressed the importance of determining the video’s authenticity to prevent any misinformation or chaos.
Jakhar highlighted the urgency of the situation by drawing parallels to a previous investigation involving a video related to former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, which was resolved promptly by Punjab Police. He called for a similar expeditious approach to verify the current video’s veracity regarding religious sacrilege. The BJP leader also urged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to seek an impartial forensic report on the video before his scheduled appearance at Akal Takht Sahib on January 15 to address any arising concerns.
In response to the video controversy, Jakhar announced plans for the BJP state core committee to protest outside the Chief Minister’s residence in Chandigarh on January 16. During this demonstration, they intend to question the Chief Minister on various issues, including the state’s law and order situation, the proliferation of gang-related activities, and specifically, the authenticity of the video in question. Jakhar emphasized the need for transparency, stating that appropriate action should be taken based on the forensic findings.
