The West Bengal BJP raised concerns over Kolkata Police officers saluting former DGP Rajeev Kumar during his visit to the Election Commission as a Trinamool Congress delegate. Rajeev Kumar, now a Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member, faced criticism from BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari for his past controversies. Adhikari questioned the police’s protocol salutes to Kumar, labeling him as “tainted” and highlighting his alleged evasion of justice.
The Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, criticized the red-carpet treatment given to Rajeev Kumar by Kolkata Police. Adhikari, a senior BJP figure, accused Kumar of concealing scandals for the Trinamool Congress and escaping accountability. Adhikari’s social media post condemning the salutes to Kumar at the Election Commission meeting went viral, emphasizing the alleged favoritism shown to the retired DGP.
Adhikari further pointed out the degradation of the state’s police force under the current Trinamool Congress government. He highlighted what he described as a compromised system under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s leadership. Adhikari’s remarks underscored the perceived corruption and unethical practices within the administration, linking Kumar’s career trajectory to political patronage.
