The Calcutta High Court is revisiting the Sandeshkhali issue following a petition by the BJP, claiming that its members are being wrongly accused in various cases. Specifically, the party has accused the police of filing FIRs against BJP workers, including Gangadhar Koyal, in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas district.

The petition, accepted on Wednesday, is set for a hearing on Thursday. The BJP’s claims involve allegations of arms-related cases against some individuals and multiple cognizable offenses against others. Previously, the state government had verbally assured no severe actions would be taken against the accused in a similar case challenging the FIRs.

In a fresh plea to the High Court, the BJP asserts that despite assurances from the state’s Advocate General, its members are facing summonses, notices, and harassment. The party further alleges being threatened with arrests, prompting an urgent hearing application to Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Sujoy Paul.

The Sandeshkhali incident previously led to a case against BJP leader Mampi Das, who was granted unconditional bail by the Calcutta High Court. Meanwhile, BJP leader Gangadhar Koyal had lodged a complaint in the High Court regarding the dissemination of fake videos related to Sandeshkhali, emphasizing that no severe actions should be taken against him. Now, the BJP has returned to the High Court concerning the cases against its workers.
