BJP National Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari criticized the Congress party for politicizing fuel price trends and overlooking India’s stability in global energy markets. Despite global fuel price surges, India experienced only a 3.5% increase in petrol and diesel prices after 76 days of stability. Bhandari compared this to other countries like Pakistan, Malaysia, US, UAE, China, and France, which saw much higher price hikes.
His remarks highlighted the need for economic patriotism and expressed support for PM Narendra Modi. The discussion arose amidst a broader debate on fuel pricing and India’s response to global crude oil volatility. BJP IT Cell incharge Amit Malviya also emphasized how India managed to keep fuel price increases significantly lower compared to other major economies during the recent global oil shock.
Malviya pointed out that while many countries faced sharp fuel price hikes due to the West Asia conflict and Brent crude surpassing $100 per barrel, India remained an exception with minimal increases. He noted that Indian Oil Marketing Companies maintained stable prices for about 76 days despite rising crude costs, absorbing substantial under-recoveries. The recent Rs 3 per litre price revision marked the first change in nearly four years, representing a modest adjustment on the existing base price.
