Samik Bhattacharya, the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal and a member of the Rajya Sabha, highlighted the need for altering the state’s land policy to attract investments. He emphasized that under the previous Trinamool Congress regime, there was a lack of new investments, leading local industrialists to invest in other states. Bhattacharya expressed optimism that the new state government would take steps to encourage investments by revising the land policy.
After the Trinamool Congress came to power in 2011, it refrained from state involvement in land acquisition for large industries. This decision was met with criticism from industry experts who believed it could deter investments in the manufacturing sector. Despite opposition, Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister, remained firm on her stance against state intervention in industrial land procurement.
During a recent meeting at the Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the state BJP president addressed concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, which had previously discouraged industrialists from investing. He assured attendees that the new government would prioritize creating a conducive environment for investments and job creation, signaling a potential shift in the state’s land policy.
