After trailing in the tournament, R Praggnanandhaa, the first Indian to win the Norway Chess trophy, credited his mother’s advice for his remarkable turnaround. Despite initial struggles, he won four consecutive games, including a victory over world No.1 Magnus Carlsen, to clinch the title by defeating Vincent Keymer in the final round.

Praggnanandhaa, a 20-year-old Grandmaster, expressed gratitude towards his mother’s timely encouragement, which spurred his winning streak. His strategic shift towards playing more controlled and faster chess, coupled with maintaining time advantage, proved pivotal in his resurgence during the tournament.

Reflecting on his final match against Keymer, Praggnanandhaa acknowledged moments of uncertainty but ultimately secured victory, marking a significant achievement in his chess career. His triumph in Norway signifies a remarkable journey from setbacks to success, bringing immense joy and pride to the Indian chess community.
