Jubilant scenes unfolded in parts of Kolkata and other areas of West Bengal as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters rejoiced over early trends indicating the party’s lead in the Assembly election results. Outside various counting centers in Kolkata, a large gathering of BJP workers, including women and youth, celebrated with party flags, music, and slogans as initial trends favored the party’s performance. Notably, members of the BJP Mahila Morcha actively participated in the festivities.
Women supporters, in particular, expressed strong emotions, associating the electoral verdict with safety and justice concerns. Some women praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, attributing their newfound courage to his leadership. One party worker outside a counting center in Kolkata remarked, “The Chief Minister of this state is a woman, but there is no respect for women. We are very happy to see the BJP winning.”
Another BJP supporter emphasized, “This victory is the people of Bengal’s triumph. The public has strongly responded to the Trinamool Congress.” Several women highlighted alleged incidents in Sandeshkhali, claiming that justice had not been served under the current regime. They viewed the election results as a reaction to what they perceived as injustices against women.
Referring to the alleged incidents, a supporter stated, “The women of Bengal have spoken. What happened in Sandeshkhali lacked justice. Today, we are delighted to see BJP leading.” The supporter added that the election outcome mirrors the collective voice of women across the state. Some supporters lauded Prime Minister Modi fervently, crediting their political activism to his guidance. A BJP worker expressed, “It is because of PM Modi that we gathered courage to defeat Mamata. This is our response to the injustices faced by women.”
Youth participation was notable in the celebrations, with young supporters actively engaging, waving flags, and chanting slogans in support of the party. While these are preliminary trends and final results are pending, the atmosphere outside counting centers remained charged, with BJP supporters expressing confidence that the leads would culminate in a definitive victory.
