The Karnataka unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party criticized the Congress-led government following the Narcotics Control Bureau’s discovery of a drug manufacturing facility in Mysuru, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s home district. The BJP accused the government of failing to combat drug trafficking, posing a threat to the youth’s future. Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka issued a warning, stating that the BJP would escalate protests statewide if the government did not take decisive action.
Ashoka expressed concern over the impact of the drug racket on the youth and urged the government to address the issue urgently. He highlighted the unchecked drug trafficking in the state and criticized the Home Minister’s response in the Belagavi Assembly session for lacking seriousness. Ashoka questioned the effectiveness of the state police and intelligence agencies, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to tackle drug operations within Karnataka.
The criticism arose after the NCB disclosed the dismantling of a significant inter-state drug trafficking network and the discovery of a clandestine drug manufacturing lab in Mysuru, Siddaramaiah’s hometown. The operation led to the seizure of drugs valued at around Rs 10 crore in the street market, along with cash, a vehicle, and a substantial amount of chemicals. The NCB sealed the unit in the Hebbal Industrial Area of Mysuru for forensic examination, in alignment with the government’s anti-drug campaign.
