A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker was attacked in broad daylight on the outskirts of Kolkata, resulting in a part of his finger being severed. The incident occurred at Valley Park on Serampur Road in the Garia area, following an altercation between the BJP worker and an alleged Trinamool Congress supporter at a grocery store.
According to the police, the altercation escalated into violence between an elderly man and a local youth associated with the BJP, known as Pintu. The elderly man, reportedly a Trinamool supporter, returned with an associate and attacked Pintu with a sharp weapon near the grocery store.
Witnesses stated that the attackers targeted Pintu’s chest and back with the weapon, and when he tried to escape, they pursued him and attempted to stab him again. In the struggle to defend himself, a part of Pintu’s finger was severed. The attackers then fled the scene, leaving Pintu bleeding profusely.
Pintu sought refuge in a nearby house, where women helped stem the bleeding before he was taken to the hospital for treatment. A complaint has been filed with the local police against the accused, prompting a search operation by the Kolkata Police to apprehend them.
The incident caused tension and fear in the area, with authorities assuring that an investigation is underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.
