Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent promotion of the Bengali snack ‘jhalmuri’ has become a symbol of celebration for the BJP amidst their electoral success.
The humble ‘jhalmuri’ gained prominence during the campaign, following PM Modi’s public indulgence in the snack during a stop in Jhargram. This incident, which went viral, sparked political discussions, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticizing it as a staged move by the BJP. The term ‘jhalmuri’, derived from the Bengali word “jhal” meaning spicy, took on a metaphorical significance in the election narrative, representing the fierce political competition and regional ethos.
As the BJP maintains a strong lead, the party has embraced the ‘jhal’ symbolism, using it as a unifying element in their celebrations nationwide.
