BJP’s Amit Malviya has countered TMC MP Sagarika Ghose’s comments regarding the treatment of Christian institutions by the Centre. Malviya accused Ghose of spreading misinformation and distorting facts, labeling her a “habitual disinformation peddler.” He refuted Ghose’s statements, except for the mention of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s visit to the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata.
Malviya criticized Ghose for attempting to mislead people by distorting facts and maligning the Indian government. He emphasized that the Missionaries of Charity are registered under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) and hold an active registration until December 31, 2026, with no pending applications regarding their FCRA status. The BJP leader condemned Ghose’s behavior as reprehensible and called for her accountability as a public figure.
The controversy arose after Ghose highlighted Rubio’s visit to the Missionaries of Charity headquarters in Kolkata and praised their humanitarian work. She accused the Modi government of hypocrisy, alleging that it was hindering the organization’s ability to receive foreign aid and seizing Church assets. Ghose claimed these actions were undermining the charitable services provided by Christian institutions.
