The first BJP government in West Bengal will commence its rule on Saturday with the swearing-in ceremony of the new Cabinet led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at 10 A.M. The BJP’s West Bengal unit intentionally selected Saturday for the oath ceremony, coinciding with Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary as per the Bengali calendar. This decision is seen as a response to the Trinamool Congress’ campaign labeling the BJP as anti-Bengali.
The oath ceremony, set to take place at the Brigade Parade Ground in Central Kolkata, will be overseen by Governor Ravi in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Ministers from other BJP-ruled states, members of the Union Cabinet, and top Central BJP leaders. Following the ceremony, the new Cabinet members, under Adhikari’s leadership, will assume their responsibilities at the historical Writers’ Buildings in central Kolkata.
Adhikari has emphasized a shift towards “collective leadership,” signaling a departure from his predecessor’s style of governance. He stressed the importance of a harmonious Centre-state relationship for effective governance. Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress announced plans to celebrate Rabindra Jayanti at Mamata Banerjee’s residence in South Kolkata while the oath ceremony unfolds at the Brigade Parade Ground.
