The Election Commission of India has directed the deployment of Central forces in various government offices, including Nabanna, the current state secretariat, as the West Bengal Assembly election results signal a shift in power towards the BJP. This move aims to protect government documents, as stated by officials on Monday. CRPF teams have been stationed at multiple government offices in the state to prevent the destruction of crucial paperwork.
Quick Response Teams (QRT) have been positioned at key locations such as Nabanna, Writers’ Building, Bikash Bhavan, Jal Sampad Bhavan, and Khadya Bhavan to ensure the safety of all official documents. During his campaign in the state, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had declared that all files would be scrutinized if the BJP assumes power, underscoring the significance of safeguarding these documents.
Nabanna, situated in Howrah, serves as the primary administrative hub of the state government, accommodating the Chief Minister’s Office. With the BJP’s potential interest in the Writers’ Building, formerly the official secretariat during the Left Front era, plans for the renovation of these structures are reportedly underway. The protection of government records has emerged as a top priority, with concerns raised about the possibility of document loss or misplacement.
In light of fears that certain documents may go missing, Central forces have been deployed around these offices for enhanced security measures. Officials have initiated bag checks for state government employees and are closely monitoring to prevent any unauthorized removal of files from the state secretariat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah have accused the Trinamool Congress government of corruption during their campaign in the state, emphasizing that all files will be reviewed if the BJP secures power.
