The newly formed government under Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari aims to be recognized as the “West Bengal government” rather than a “Bharatiya Janata Party government,” as emphasized by Samik Bhattacharya, BJP’s West Bengal president and Rajya Sabha MP. Bhattacharya highlighted that the state administration will operate independently, with the party’s role limited to ensuring the effective fulfillment of pre-election commitments outlined in the Sankalp Patra.
CM Adhikari, accompanied by Bhattacharya, attended an organizational meeting at the BJP’s state headquarters in Salt Lake, Kolkata. Following this, Adhikari proceeded to the current state secretariat at Nabanna in Mandirtala for the inaugural cabinet meeting, where subsequent interactions with top state officials are scheduled.
The transition to the new cabinet’s functioning will involve three distinct organizational meetings with key bureaucrats and police officials. Bhattacharya assured the media that the forthcoming government will maintain impartiality in its operations. Adhikari, who received a “Guard of Honour” at the state secretariat gate, confirmed plans to relocate the cabinet from Nabanna to the historic Writers’ Buildings in central Kolkata.
Adhikari has pledged a governance model based on collective leadership, emphasizing a collaborative approach over unilateral decision-making. He affirmed that decisions within the new administration will be consensus-driven, in contrast to the previous governance style of his predecessor, Mamata Banerjee.
