The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a weather alert for Mumbai and its suburbs, predicting continuous spells of rain. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated at various locations, with the possibility of extremely heavy rain in isolated areas. The BMC’s weather bulletin also warns of gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph during the intense rainfall, advising residents to be cautious outdoors.
The BMC has reported significant rainfall in Mumbai over the past 24 hours. From July 3 to July 4, the city received an average rainfall of 99 mm, while the eastern suburbs saw 98 mm and the western suburbs had 94 mm. Moreover, a high tide of 4.26 meters is expected at 2:50 p.m. on Saturday, with another high tide of 3.60 meters at 2:52 a.m., along with low tides at 1.66 meters and 1.28 meters.
Forecasters have predicted heavy rainfall in Mumbai, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, and the Konkan region from July 4 to July 6. The alert extends to districts like Raigad, Thane, Palghar, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, with moderate to heavy rainfall expected in ghat areas of central Maharashtra. Authorities caution that persistent rainfall may disrupt local transport, leading to waterlogging and traffic congestion, urging residents to stay vigilant and follow official guidance.
In light of the weather conditions, the state’s disaster management department has advised citizens to contact emergency services if needed. Helpline numbers have been provided for Palghar, Thane Municipal Corporation, Thane disaster management cell, and Panvel municipal corporation. Satellite imagery has shown a large cloud system over the Arabian Sea moving towards Maharashtra, indicating a likelihood of intensified rainfall in Mumbai and nearby regions due to deep convective cloud formations.
