The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has advised Mumbai residents to stay indoors due to an Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) red alert predicting intense rainfall and strong winds. Citizens are warned to avoid risky areas like trees, dilapidated buildings, and the seashore. BMC emphasized following official alerts, contacting the helpline in emergencies, and complying with safety guidelines.
Approximately 15,000 BMC officers and employees are actively engaged in disaster management efforts across Mumbai. The city faces severe flooding, with key areas like Andheri Milan Subway and Ghatkopar submerged. Schools and colleges are closed, and train services disrupted. Despite over 400 complaints of fallen trees, safety concerns persist, with tragic incidents reported in Chembur, Kurla, and Aarey Colony.
The civic body’s management is under scrutiny as dangerous tree branches pose risks despite safety directives. The situation remains challenging, with citizens and activists highlighting ongoing safety lapses amidst the monsoon deluge.
