The body of 29-year-old Punjabi singer Yashinder Kaur, also known as Inder Kaur, who had been missing for six days, was discovered in the Neelon canal near Ludhiana district in Punjab. Her family accused her ex-boyfriend, residing in Canada, of kidnapping and murdering her, alleging that she was taken at gunpoint. The incident has sparked widespread attention on social media, with fans mourning her loss and calling for justice.
Victim’s brother, Jotinder Singh, informed the police that Kaur had left her home on May 13 to buy groceries but never returned. The family claimed that Sukhwinder Singh from Moga district had pressured her to marry him, leading to her disappearance. Kaur and Sukhwinder had met on Instagram three years ago and were friends until she discovered his marital status, after which she ended their relationship, reportedly causing resentment.
Authorities had filed a report against the accused, who had traveled from Canada to India, along with his father and a friend from Moga district, both of whom have been arrested. The police disclosed that the accused arrived in India on April 29 and left on the same day Kaur went missing. It was revealed that Kaur and Sukhwinder had a past relationship that ended when she declined his marriage proposal, allegedly resulting in her abduction at gunpoint.
Investigating officer Dalvir Singh stated that Kaur’s body was found in the canal, near her abandoned car with bloodstains, indicating she was likely murdered in the vehicle before being disposed of in the waterway.
