The Ordnance Factory in Itarsi, a significant defense unit specializing in propellants and ammunition, faced a bomb threat via email, leading to an urgent evacuation and thorough search by law enforcement and bomb disposal teams. The email, received on the factory’s official account, triggered a high-alert situation after its detection the following morning. This incident marks the second threat to the facility in 2025, with a previous hoax occurring in April after a detailed investigation.
Authorities, including the Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Itarsi, Virendra Mishra, confirmed the deployment of two Bomb Disposal Squads within the factory premises to sweep for potential threats. The campus was cleared, and investigations are ongoing to ensure safety. The email mentioned the placement of three RDX bombs at the Ordnance Factory and other locations, leading to the cordoning off of areas around Pathrauta, Itarsi, and Rampur as a precautionary measure.
Despite the intensive search, no suspicious items have been discovered thus far, maintaining a sense of security within the premises. The operation, overseen by Additional Superintendent of Police Abhishek Rajan, involved thorough inspections by teams from various stations to ensure a comprehensive sweep of the sensitive location. Delays in bomb disposal squad deployment were experienced due to heightened security measures in Madhya Pradesh during Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda’s visit.
The incident has not prompted an official statement from the police, but the factory, managed by Munitions India Limited, remains under strict security protocols. While authorities are taking the situation seriously, they are considering the possibility of another false alarm, akin to the previous incident in April. Operations are anticipated to resume once the site is deemed safe, with police urging the public to remain calm and ensuring thorough security measures are in place. Further updates on the investigation will be provided as they unfold.
