Boxing World Cup silver medalist Jadumani Singh secured a convincing victory over Commonwealth Games gold medalist Amit Panghal in the men’s 50-55kg semifinals at the Elite Men and Women National Boxing Championships. Singh will now face Pawan Bartwal in the summit clash after Bartwal also won his semifinal match at Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida.
This year marks the first time that the men’s and women’s National Championships are being held concurrently at the same venue, with 600 boxers competing across 10 weight categories for both men and women. In the semifinals, Jadumani defeated Amit Panghal with a dominant 5:0 score, while Pawan Bartwal achieved a similar victory over Victor Singh from Manipur.
Notable victories in the championships include world champion Minakshi’s win over Malika Mor and two-time former World Champion Nikhat Zareen’s triumph against Kusum Baghel. Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain also advanced to the final in the women’s 70-75kg category, while Preeti secured her spot in the final by defeating Aarti Dhariyal in the 51-54kg category.
In the men’s section, Sachin emerged victorious in the 55-60kg category by defeating Bhupinder Singh from Punjab, while Hitesh Gulia outclassed Rajashthan’s Vivek in the 65-70kg category. Additionally, boxers like Abhinash Jamwal, Sumit, and Narender also progressed to the finals in their respective weight categories.
Top boxers like Minakshi Hooda, Nikhat Zareen, Hitesh Gulia, and others comfortably reached the semi-finals with impressive wins. Minakshi of All India Police and Nikhat Zareen secured their places in the semis with dominant performances, while Hitesh Gulia advanced by defeating Tejaswi from Punjab. Pawan Bartwal, Jadumani Singh, and Sachin also secured their spots in the semifinals with unanimous decisions in their respective bouts.
In the women’s 51-54kg quarterfinals, Preeti defeated Harmeet Kaur Virk, and Sakshi emerged victorious against Poonam of RSPB.
