Two brothers, convicted in a 1996 Delhi murder case and on the run for nearly ten years, have been apprehended by the Delhi Police Crime Branch in separate operations in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. Firasat Ali, one of the accused, was also wanted in a 2006 Mumbai contract killing case involving a gruesome murder and dismemberment.
The arrests were carried out by the Anti-Robbery and Snatching Cell (ARSC) team under ACP Sanjay Kumar Nagpal’s supervision. Inspector Robin Tyagi led the operations resulting in the capture of Firasat Ali, 56, from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, and his younger brother Shah Nawaz Ali, 51, from Godda, Jharkhand.
Both brothers had been sentenced to life imprisonment in 2000 by a Delhi court for the 1996 murder case but were out on bail pending their appeal before the Delhi High Court. In 2016, the High Court upheld their conviction, instructing them to surrender for serving the remainder of their sentence. However, they failed to surrender and remained fugitives.
Firasat Ali was previously arrested by the Mumbai Police in 2018 for a 2006 contract killing case. Despite being granted bail in that case and later released on furlough for the Delhi murder case in 2023, he absconded once more. Shah Nawaz had been untraceable since 2016 after not surrendering to prison authorities.
