Chaos unfolded on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura as a bus caught fire near Milestone 110 in the Raya police station area early Thursday morning. The Raj Kalpana (Sanskar Travels) bus, en route to Noida, became engulfed in flames, causing panic among passengers. Despite the intense fire, passengers managed to flee by jumping out through windows and doors, averting any casualties.
The bus, with registration number UP90 AT 8837, was traveling from Banda to Delhi-Noida via Agra when smoke suddenly started billowing from it around 5.15 a.m. The fire escalated rapidly, prompting the driver to stop the bus on the expressway, leading to a swift evacuation by passengers. Approximately 10 to 15 passengers, including women and children, were onboard during the incident.
Following the outbreak of the fire, authorities from the Raya police station and the Yamuna Expressway rescue team rushed to the scene. Fire brigade units also arrived and successfully extinguished the flames after significant efforts. Despite the rescue operation, the bus was completely destroyed by the fire, causing a traffic jam on the expressway for several hours.
Officials identified some of the passengers, including Ijaz from Banda, Atul from Noida, Shyam Singh from Banda, Sonu from Kanpur, Saroj from Banda, and residents of Banda named Uma, Ajay Soni, Shivani, Aarti, and Dayaram. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire, focusing on whether it resulted from a short circuit or other technical issues in the bus.
