C2i Semiconductors, a chip design startup based in Bengaluru and supported by the government’s Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme, has secured $15 million in a Series A funding round led by Peak XV Partners. This latest funding, in addition to the DLI support, will expedite the development of power-management semiconductor solutions for advanced AI data centers and cloud infrastructure. Peak XV Partners, recognizing the potential of C2i’s innovative solution, has spearheaded this investment to enhance the development of cutting-edge power delivery solutions.
The funding round, which follows a $4 million raise in 2024, aims to drive the creation of next-generation, high-density, and ultra-reliable system-level power delivery solutions. Rajan Anandan, Managing Director at Peak XV, praised C2i’s power management approach for its ability to extend GPU lifespan and generate substantial savings within the industry. The startup’s unique grid-to-core approach in redesigning electricity flow within servers is highlighted as a key innovation.
C2i’s technology functions as an intelligent power control system tailored for data centers, ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of high-performance AI systems in the evolving digital infrastructure landscape. The semiconductor program in India, emphasizing the development of domestic intellectual property and globally competitive product companies, is gaining momentum. The DLI Scheme, initiated in 2022, mitigates upfront risks for startups by providing financial support, access to advanced tools, and IP cores, fostering a conducive environment for deep-tech companies.
The semiconductor chip design ecosystem in India is witnessing growth, with startups under the DLI scheme attracting increased interest from investors and users alike. While semiconductor ventures typically entail long development cycles and technical risks, the DLI Scheme’s structured support mechanism enhances investor confidence and commercial viability. This strategic intervention, backed by a thorough evaluation process by industry experts, is paving the way for investors to actively engage with DLI-supported startups, driving innovation and competitiveness in the sector.
