Cabo Verde challenged Argentina in a 3-2 match at the Miami Stadium, with Argentina securing a win after 124 minutes. Despite falling behind twice, Cabo Verde fought hard, but Argentina’s experience led them to victory. Lionel Messi’s team will now face Egypt in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Argentina initially dominated possession, with Lionel Messi missing an early chance. However, Messi later scored the opening goal with a precise pass from Lisandro Martínez. Enzo Fernandez’s attempt before halftime was saved by Cabo Verde’s goalkeeper, Vozinha.

In the second half, Cabo Verde equalized through Deroy Duarte’s goal, but Argentina continued to press. Despite missed opportunities, Lisandro Martínez scored to make it 2-1 in extra time. Cabo Verde fought back, but an own goal from a Messi corner sealed Argentina’s victory.

Argentina will now progress to face Egypt in the next round of the tournament.
