The Calcutta High Court has instructed the Kolkata Municipal Corporation to provide details, backed by evidence, on any unauthorized constructions at Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee’s residence and his company, Leaps and Bounds. The court demanded a comprehensive report specifying the nature and location of deviations found at Banerjee’s property within seven days.
Additionally, property owners have been directed to present their perspectives on any illegal portions and the extent of such constructions within two weeks. The court scheduled the next hearing in four weeks, awaiting reports from the civic body and property owners to proceed further. Fresh discussions have emerged following this court directive.
Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s parents have contested the legality of construction at their Kolkata residence, challenging the Kolkata Municipal Corporation’s notice alleging illegal building activities. Notices were also sent to multiple addresses associated with Abhishek Banerjee, with his firm seeking an extension to provide necessary details to the Corporation.
Allegations of deviations from approved building plans have prompted investigations into properties linked to Abhishek Banerjee and his relatives. The Corporation issued notices under Section 401 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation Act, requiring submission of building plans and permits for additional constructions. Media reports suggest notices were issued for a total of 17 properties, including those registered under Banerjee’s family names.
